First Birthday

Luckily, Kyle was born on Friday last year so this year his first birthday landed on a Saturday. Evan was good enough to get the day off of work and because Kyle loves animals (we've taken to going to Pet Smart for fun) we had a zoo themed birthday.

The day before, I made cupcakes, pies, and a cake for the buffet dinner the next night at a nearby park. I was working hard on frosting the cake and such, so to keep Kyle distracted I gave him the sprinkle container. It had four different kinds and I did not think that he could get the lid off. It was quiet and then I looked down.

It was an easy clean, he was happy, and it kept him distracted--so no sprinkles on the cupcakes this time.

We went to the zoo in the morning. It was the day after the zoo had debuted their baby elephant and there were about ten or so other babies just being debuted. So it was the perfect time. He slept through a lot of it, but it was still fun.

Our most wonderful and fabulous friends, the Frosts, joined us. Dane made it more fun because he didn't sleep.

This is who the Frost's really are---

And for those of you who don't know....this is my Kungfu Panda---seriously, does that not make you think of Jack Black because that is totally who I am married to. Unfortunately, Evan will never be rich or famous because his doppelganger already is.....

On the train....

This is Kyle's monkey cake. I made it! I didn't think I could do something like that, but I did. Notice the resemblance between our pink monkey and the edible one. I am very proud of myself---although Kyle didn't care.

Once I showed him what to do, he did pretty well. Didn't really eat much cake though (although he hadn't had a nap because of how the day had gone and he was exhausted even before the party started). He probably wouldn't have been  much dirtier than this.

Except Maria started helping him. Luckily, I had walked away by this point.

The park was two minutes from our house and this is how tired the boy was. He didn't even wake up when we took him out of the car.

But I wouldn't let him go to bed like that, so he had a bath. It perked him right up. He loves his baths.

It was a perfect birthday---every other one is going to be more low key!!!

I'm glad I got to see your awesome monkey cake, and that you documented the sprinkle incident. Good times, man.

Yay!!! You're back! (although I am not one to chastise for taking a hiatus from blogging, since I frequently do the same)Still, it was a nice surprise to see new posts. I never answered your email, but yes, we made it back okay. Chris made it back okay as well, and we had a wonderful Christmas in Oklahoma.

I am still sad we missed Kyle's first birthday, and I am very impressed with the cake. I have been wondering what kind of cake to make for Halle's birthday next month but I am pretty sure it won't turn out as cute as Kyle's!
