So Big (at least Bigger)

I know most people think that Kyle is very small. Some people don't even think he's gotten bigger at all--I will prove you wrong. As of today he weighs 9 lbs. He is wearing a size one diaper now, although he is still in newborn clothing. Consider that at his lowest weight he was 5 lbs 9 oz.

Foot at birth...

Foot two weeks ago....

In his car seat the day we left the hospital...

On 2 month anniversary...

He's growing and getting bigger. I love it....

Art Project

We made Kyle foot print wrapping paper for Evan's mom's birthday gift. He hated it and it didn't turn out as nice and crisp as I had hoped. But we will do it again.

Daddy did the holding. I did the placing.

Finished product....

Getting a non-crying bath (which is a new thing) after to clean up...

Grandma loved it by the way....

Daddy Time

These are not in any particular order. Just Evan and his son.

The nurses gave Evan an ink footprint of Kyle's foot after he was born....

I think they have similar expressions when they sleep...compare below...

Sleeping together....

Reading the iPhone together...

Eating....

Evan loves Kyle very much. They do a lot of tummy sleeping together. I love it. I hope that someday I can make a calendar of that type of picture. One for every month. So far, so good.

Halloween

My mother gave me this sleeper for Halloween, but Kyle was too small for it. He is still wearing newborn clothing and at 10 weeks finally got into a size one diaper. But he's growing steadily.

Look at the "Boo" on the feet...I love it when the foot has something on the bottom...

One of Evan's customers brought us a Build a Bear Eeyore costume. It was too small, but we took some of the parts from it and Evan's mom created a onesie that fit. From the back he looks like a stuffed Eeyore. Many people also thought he was a doll. He was so cute, I couldn't get over it.

With grandpa and grandma at their ward party...

We went to a friend's party...Evan drew him a mustache....

I love that now I have a child, I don't have to dress up. If I dress them up and hold them or take them somewhere--I feel covered.

Random Events...that only a Mother or Grandmother Care About

Our friends, the Ferris family, sent us this blanket and onesie. Rachelle made them. We use them often. Kyle is making his "what are you doing" face. Thanks Rachelle and Clay.

Talking...

Practicing his new skill...grasping....

This is Kyle on his tummy time mat--so far, he hasn't liked it. But maybe when we get past the phase of always wanting to be held and into a playing and toy phase, I have hope it will be a hit.

Cozy in his sling...all day.

This is Kyle's bed...he is in it...

This is my baby when you pull the blanket back. He gets to sleep on his tummy because of the reflux. His pacifier is usually about in that position after he falls asleep. Sometimes it is farther though as he likes to stick his fist in his mouth now.

This was when Aunt Heidi put the car seat in...don't worry he was asleep and didn't make a sound.

Hanging out with Aunt Heidi while Evan and Oliver work.

In his stroller, preparing for a walk...

On the fifth when it snowed, it looked like this...

I wanted Kyle to experience the snow...he was in the sling, but I opened it to see how he would react. He slept through it. But I got a good picture.

This is how we looked after the walk...he was warm and dry, not me...

This is sometimes how Kyle passes his two hour afternoon nap....wide awake and quiet or talking to himself.

Playing superman with Aunt Heidi before bowling...

We have some fun.

Healthy Baby?!?

Kyle did have some problems, but all of them are very common to babies. Kyle lost 11% of his birth weight within four days. We had to supplement him with a bottle, until he got the hang of breast feeding. Because he was so little we also had to feed him every two hours (measuring from the beginning of one feeding to the next).

He had jaundice during his first week of life. This is him in the billibed. It was difficult to leave him in there, except when he ate every two hours. We got in 60 hours in the billibed within a 72 hour period. It was also difficult because you had to put the goggles and hat on him, which he did not like. However, he would fall right asleep in the bed.

The billibed in our living room.

A favorite pose of both Kyle and Evan when sleeping....

The second week, Kyle had breast milk (or late onset) jaundice. We had to continue to feed him every two hours. There was a lot of alarm setting that week.

The third week he had only gained an ounce from the previous week and was not yet back up to birth weight. We had to track all the feedings, diapers, and how long each feeding was or how much he took. It was still scheduled two hour feedings. There was talk of a failure to thrive baby. It was very stressful for us.

Then at the beginning of the fourth week, we found out he had gained a whole pound and was up to 7 lbs 1 oz. Ironically, we believed he hadn't gained any weight that week and the week he only gained an ounce, we thought he'd gained a pound.

Unfortuntely, Kyle had been projectile vomitting very frequently and we had to go to Primary's Children's Hospital to have a barium upper GI. He drank a bottle of cherry flavored barium solution. He was very good and they didn't even have to strap him down. He stretched right out for the techs. He didn't need surgery, but he did have reflux. We've got him on a antacid. Hopefully he'll grow out of it. His spit-ups/vomitting is decreasing and we hope it is because he is growing out of the condition.

Needless to say in the first several weeks of life, we saw the pediatrician a lot.

This is our cutest little boy. That is a newborn sweatshirt. He was that tiny.

Week with Nana

Nana, as my mother has chosen to be called, came to visit us the second week of Kyle's life. It was the soonest she could come because we only found out that Kyle was coming a week before he was born.

Sitting with Nana the night she arrived....he was awake just for her....

Sleeping while Nana read....

Meeting Great Grandpa and Grandma Young....(they always knew they were good grandparents, but now they are GREAT grandparents). Kyle is sitting "in the crook" as all grandpa's children and grandchildren have. Kyle is the eldest son, of an eldest son, of an eldest son...kind of interesting huh. He is the first grandchild on both sides and the first great grandchild on Evan's side and the first great grandson on my side. He is a-mazing....

First "real" family photo...I look terribly tired and I was.

This is where my baby shower was held. I was lucky enough to have to postpone it a week because Kyle was coming and then he got to come with me. It was held at Tahitian Noni and Ekitzel hosted.

The grandma's and their favorite grandson....

Quality time with Nana...

Nana gave Kyle his first bath...look at him stare at her....

Bath time....

Being at Costco with Aunt Heidi...

Getting his diaper changed in the back seat of Uncle Oliver's car....

The first few weeks (when he was really struggling with weight and jaundice, then Nana came, and we were not all the way prepared for him to come so many errands were necessary) were really on the go. Luckily, after four weeks when we got all the health problems figured out...things settled down.
